Whatever the label, Upside Blue takes the songs that such giants as Ray Charles, Etta James and Billie Holiday first turned into classics, and adds a special Upside Blue feel. It's music that breaks out of the traditional straightforward patterns of the Blues into the more subtle and advanced harmonies and rhythms of Jazz - but without sacrificing the emotional to the intellectual.
